SUNY at Buffalo VETERINARY TECHNICIAN The Division of Comparative Medicine and Laboratory Animal Facilities (CMLAF) at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY at Buffalo ) has an immediate opening for a Veterinary Technician. The veterinary staff includes 3 full time veterinarians and veterinary technicians, who provide care to a wide range of animal species, including rodents, rabbits, aquatic species, dogs, pigs, and sheep. The laboratory animal facility is a ~100,000 square foot AAALAC accredited facility. Job responsibilities include: daily rounds and treatments of animals under veterinary care, provision of anesthesia and post-operative care, assistance with necropsies, assistance with the sentinel rodent health monitoring program, and performing routine diagnostic laboratory tests.
Minimum job requirements include: an associate's degree in veterinary technology and the ability to obtain a NY state veterinary technician license. Previous veterinary technician experience, experience working with laboratory animals, or AALAS certification at the LAT or LATG level is highly desirable. BioResearch Core Director The Center for Biotechnology and Interdisciplinary Studies (CBIS) at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is seeking a Director for its BioResearch Core Facility. The Director of the BioResearch Core will participate in the design and fit out of the new animal research facility, and will manage the operations of the new facility and an existing aquatic research facility. The Director also will supervise the recruiting and training of animal care staff, the preparation of relevant SOPs, and will manage preparation for eventual facility AALAC certification. The Director may also serve as a member, and possibly Chairperson, of the CBIS Bio-Imaging Committee and the RPI IACUC. Qualifications: Ph.D. and/or D.V.M. preferred; M.S. degree with extensive experience acceptable. At least 10 years experience in animal research facilities, especially with rodents, is expected. AALAS certification expected. Working knowledge of histology, necropsy techniques and microscopy highly desirable. Experience with surgery, bio-imaging techniques and anesthesia, and the management of transgenic lines desirable. This position requires knowledge of research animal biology, husbandry and health and facility management, and of basic animal research procedures. Experience with barrier husbandry or ABSL-3 procedures would be helpful.
